Dress A Girl Southwest Missouri

Dresses, Skirts & Shorts

Learn about the garments we make, our guidelines, and the patterns we use to bring smiles & dignity to girls and boys around the world.

Dress Guidelines

All garments follow the official Dress A Girl Around the World guidelines to ensure quality and consistency. From Dress a Girl Around the World “We dream of a world in which every girl has at least one new dress. We want girls to know that they are worthy of respect, and that they are loved by God.”

Key Requirements

  • Use 100% cotton fabric.
    • If you can see your hand through the fabric, it’s too thin. We are trying to give the girls dignity, and their skin would show through.
  • No White, Character, Patriotic, Holiday or Language Print fabric please.
  • Make sure bias tape is 1/2” Extra Wide, Double Fold and sewn on evenly. NO Ribbon.
  • It should be long enough to tie a bow. We cut ours 36”-42”.
  • Finish all seams with a zig zag stitch or by serger.
  • Backstitch to reinforce all stitches.
  • Feel free to embellish with Ric-rack, lace, and buttons. Please sew it on - No glue.

What We Make

We make several different styles of dresses, skirts and shorts. Each garment has pockets for the child to put their treasures in.

  • A-Line dress with ties at the shoulders.
  • Peasant dress with cap sleeves.
  • Men's Shirt dress.
  • Reversible dress.
  • Teen skirt for the older girls.
  • Short with deep pocket for the boys.

Patterns & Styles

A-Line Dress

This classic design is simple to make, beautiful to wear. Uses bias tape for straps and elastic casing.

Teen Skirts

For older girls, we also create simple skirt with elastic waistbands. These are paired with a coordinating t-shirt.

Peasant Dress

This design has an elastic neckline and simple puff sleeves. You can create a casing and add elastic or just hem the sleeve.

Reversible Dress

This is a unique design allowing a little girl to have not one but two dresses in one. One side has a curved neckline while the other side has a V-neck.

Men's Shirt Dress

This is an awesome way to use "gently used" men's 100% cotton dress shirts and turning them into a dress for a girl. We sew down the placard, leaving the pocket on the dress and adding more.

Shorts for Boys

These shorts are made with love for our boys with a simple elastic waist and deep pockets to hold their treasures. We pair these with a t-shirt to complete their outfit.
